CABLE MAPPING

To detect and locate any pending failures on medium voltage cables       LIVE HV can conduct On-Line PD testing using split core High Frequency Current Transformers (HFCT) while the cable remains live.

Cable testing prevents outages, dramatically improves the time required  for repair and provides peace of mind . Common problem areas detected are joints and terminations.

Using the latest technology LIVE HV can now provide On-Line PD cable mapping. If a cable discharge is detected LIVE HV can find the exact location of the PD site while the cable is energised. Sensors are placed at both ends of the cable and a pulse is injected into the cable when a discharge pulse is detected. By calculating the time difference between the original discharge pulse and the injected pulse it is possible to determine the exact location of the PD.

The HFCT’s are either placed around the cable earth strap or the insulated phase after the earth screen has been taken off.  There are certain earth pre-requisites required to conduct On-Line PD testing of cables.  Please contact us to discuss these.
